Celebrating Tim Tucker’s Remarkable Career

September 25, 2018

As the Mayor of Minneapolis, Jacob Frey hereby proclaims TODAY, September 25, 2018 to be Tim Tucker Day in the City of Minneapolis!

Tim Tucker began working at Augustana Care in 1984 and became CEO in 1995. As former Elim Care CEO Bob Dahl assumes the role of CEO for our newly combined organization Augustana Elim Care Services, Tim remains in a senior executive position as CEO emeritus. Tim will assist with the affiliation and work on specific corporate-wide strategic initiatives. Today we celebrate Tim Tucker’s remarkable career.

Often described as a visionary leader, Tim Tucker’s efforts to help create employee housing and parking while expanding Augustana Care’s Minneapolis campus helped set the stage for the development of what is now called East Town. His ability to successfully collaborate with neighborhood partners allowed Augustana Care to attract employees to its downtown Minneapolis location and foster the stability that resulted in the neighborhood flourishing as we still see today.

Tim’s tenure as CEO has produced development, expansion, diversification and programming involving the community in exceptionally creative ways. He inspires and encourages those around him to support “out of the box” ideas, which not only benefit residents and their families, but also our community.

Before Tim Tucker held the reigns of CEO, Augustana Care consisted of a health care center and apartments in Minneapolis. Today, Augustana Care owns and manages more than 20 communities in Minnesota and Colorado. Augustana Care not only expanded care communities in the Twin Cities and in underserved rural areas, but also expanded the kind of services it offers. Therapy and adult day services were offered beginning in 2000 and now Augustana Care has added dedicated memory care, hospice and home health services to its wide range of care services available.

In addition, Tim’s focus and commitment to building relationships with residents, families and staff is incredible. Tim is known to go out of his way to talk with people, asking about their loved one, health, interests and concerns, at any Augustana Care location he may be visiting. He listens carefully to what others tell him and it is evident his concern for them is genuine.

Tim is also committed to programs that change the way we connect with older adults. One such program involves a sensory room for memory care residents that won a Eureka! Award from the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal. Another program brought college students to live alongside older adults at Augustana Care.

Augustana Care has experienced significant growth and innovation under Tim Tucker’s leadership. His list of professional accomplishments and accolades is long and deserving, but in the 1990s when Tim helped reimagine Heritage Park in North Minneapolis, which was crumbling at the time, and turned it into a showcase for how to serve older adults with low incomes ranks near the top. Today the Cora McCorvey Health and Wellness Center and the memory care community Thomas Feeney Manor bring distinguished partners together in an environment where older adults with low incomes can find exercise, medical services, adult day services and exceptional housing in a beautiful setting.

Tim Tucker’s leadership is focused on service to others and to the industry itself. He was on the cutting edge of housing practices from the moment he arrived, promoting what is now known as assisted living. He continues to play an instrumental role in leading Augustana Care’s efforts to connect with new generations. The most recent example of this was the development of a hands-on classroom and individual technology training facility for older adults. Understanding that aging adults want to stay in their own home as long as possible, these new home health and safety technologies are being taught at The Learning Lab for Eldercare Technologies today. This training is helping aging Minnesotans and their caregivers become more confident and comfortable with technology that help them live independently within their communities.

We thank Tim Tucker for his years of leadership, innovation and commitment to develop services that surround the core business Augustana Care is known for, all while pursuing partnerships and collaborations with other like-minded organizations. Today we honor you and your remarkable career!
