Celebrating the Veterans Who Have Served Our Country
This Veterans’ Day and always, Cassia and all of the communities we are affiliated with honor those who have served our country. We are proud to know so many Veterans across all branches of service and honor them each day. Many of our communities held special celebrations on or around Veterans’ Day, here is just a sampling.
Open Circle Adult Day Services of Hopkins celebrated the Veterans and honored their service on November 15th. Open Circle of Hopkins have Veterans from all branches of service as members. The Open Circle choir performed and certificates of appreciation were handed out to all the Veterans. The RSVP group with Volunteers of America joined them and acknowledged the Veterans that participated in the Veteran’s History Project, where interviews are being recorded at the National Archives in Washington D.C.
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) offers seniors a variety of community service options. RSVP is a national Senior Corps program sponsored locally by Volunteers of America of Minnesota, matching people age 55 and older with opportunities to volunteer that meet their individual skills, interests, schedule, and geographic availability.
Throughout the years, many Veterans have moved in and out of Brookside Manor, now Brookside Senior Living. They have always been honored by their neighbors and the Brookside staff for their sacrifice and service to our country. With the recent move to Brookside Senior Living’s new building, staff member Kelly Snell wanted to create a more permanent space to honor those living at Brookside going forward.
Using memorial funds received when her father, Gale Dawson (a Vietnam Veteran) passed away, Snell partnered with Kyle TeBeest of Anderson-TeBeest Funeral Home to create Brookside Senior Living’s Veterans’ Wall. Each Veteran resident is acknowledged with an individually engraved framed picture with branch and years of service. This new wall will honor Brookside’s Veterans for years and years to come!
To all of our Veterans, thank you for your service! We are honored to know you and thrilled to see you each day.
Cassia is a new partnership of Augustana Care and Elim Care. At Augustana Care and Elim Care, we were each on our own uncompromising quest to foster fullness of life for older adults, in the spirit of Christ’s love. We realized that our paths were converging, so we joined into one organization with one mission and one name: Cassia. Our name is inspired by an anointing oil, referenced in Scripture, to reflect our history of compassion, renewal and future growth. We believe that coming together to contribute talents and skills makes us not only stronger but better able to serve. New name. New collaboration. Same values.
